back to school: Mental Health Deserves A Seat In Class

Back to School: Mental Health Deserves A Seat In Class

Being ready for Back-to-School means more than backpacks, binders, and bus schedules. It also means mentally preparing yourself and your children for the stressors and challenges they may face. YCADC | YCMHC | SAMHSA strives to provide parents and caregivers with the tools they need to support behavioral wellness. These tools are designed to help parents and caregivers talk to their children about mental illness and substance misuse, identify where additional support may be needed, and provide a connection to care. As we approach the new school year, let’s make ‘Caring for Every Child’s Mental Health’ a priority. Every child deserves to have a successful academic year, and by equipping young people with mental health support, we are setting them up for a healthier and brighter future.

Parents have a critical role in supporting the social and emotional development of their children.

Often unseen and untreated, child and adolescent mental health challenges can significantly impact the ability to learn and develop. One in five children has a diagnosable mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder, yet many of them do not receive the help they need.
